If you were among the lucky Silver Lakers who received a food scrap bucket recently, you probably have questions. Silver Lake Together has answers. The buckets are part of the L.A. Sanitation’s new pilot program to reduce food waste by 75% by 2025. Select Silver Lakers can now collect food scraps in the buckets and empty them in their green bins for pickup and recycling. Although the program is dubbed “organic" waste, the scraps don’t have to be certified organic, and bones, egg shells, etc. along with fruits and veggies can be recycled. The buckets contain handy flyers with more information and tips on preventing food waste.
