Karen Bass for Mayor
SLT has endorsed incumbent Mayor Karen Bass for another term to lead the City of Los Angeles. We strongly believe that Mayor Bass has been a steady and focused mayor, which is imperative for many upcoming Los Angeles-hosted global events. We also believe Ms. Bass has a better handle on the incredible challenging issues facing all Angelenos. And most importantly, she did not bend the knee to the dictator and his cronies in the White House. Ms. Bass stood her ground and fought

To Call or Not to Call - Why Is This A Question?
Some in this city really need to re-think their reluctance in calling law enforcement when a crime has occurred. Especially sexual assaults. There has been a spate of assaults around the Silver Lake Reservoir complex for over a month. One of the first victims interviewed publicly stated she didn’t know what to do and decided NOT TO CALL the police. She waited until the next day to post flyers and social media alerts (head scratcher). By not calling the police immediately, val

Update on 2800 Glendale
The infamous, abandoned project at 2800 Glendale has until mid June to clean itself up - or fines and revocation of existing building permit proceedings begin. The owner should, at the very least, remove trash, graffiti, and make it less of an eyesore. Council District 4 referred the matter to the City's Inspection Bureau in late March, and notice was recently posted on the project site. The process is slow, but CD4 has been actively pursuing a remedy for this eyesore. The Ci

Lights out? VOTE NO!
Seriously?! We are being asked to approve a property assessment to help cover the cost of the getting our City's street lights to work? We pay taxes and very expensive water and power bills for that very reason. Are we to believe that this “assessment” will fade away in the near future? Once an assessment is approved, it will likely become permanent. SLT does not support this assessment and asks that all property owning Angelenos vote “no”. Instead, maybe the City should give

RV Whack-A-Mole Continues...
Silver Lake Together has received multiple questions, concerns, and calls for help with regard to a particular RV, whose owner has been using our residential streets as his personal storage facility for over a year. Residents are not pleased having this large and unsightly vehicle parked in front of their homes, for days at a time. For the last couple of months, the RV owner, after discovery of a few parking enforcement loopholes, has placed a message board in one of the wind

...as does the urban blight at 2800 Glendale!
Silver Lake Together has also received questions regarding the infamous abandoned project at 2800 Glendale. Since our last update in June 2025, not much has changed. Some exterior panels have been installed, and the protective tarps have been graffitied. This project has been in a state of disrepair for years. A permit was issued in 2017, eight years ago, and during the pandemic things went south. “We've worked through some engineering and financing issues and expect to be wr

SB79 Put on Pause by City Council
Governor Newsom recently signed Senate Bill 79 (SB79), which allows for the construction of multi-family housing near rail, subway, and rapid bus transit stops. The bill, sponsored by Senator Scott Weiner of San Francisco, is designed to create more housing supply, reduce housing costs, and reduce carbon emissions. The bill took eight years of work. Effective July 1, 2026, the law permits housing projects up to nine stories tall near certain transit stops and up to seven stor

Slip Sliding Away
For years, soil erosion from the slopes on W. Silver Lake Dr. has covered the sidewalks south of Balmer with loose dirt. That dirt has made walking, jogging, running or using a wheelchair on that stretch of sidewalks extremely dangerous. Especially after a rain. Most pedestrians opt to walk in the street to avoid any danger, which is an even greater risk. SLT researched municipal codes to confirm what we already assumed: the responsibility of keeping these sidewalks safe and

Are We On The Level?
A SLT Newsletter reader sent our editor a question: “When will the SL Reservoir be refilled to its' original height?" We reached out to the LADWP and Michael Ventre, LADWP’s Senior Public Relations Specialist, provided us with a timely answer. “The refill operation will continue at Silver Lake Reservoir at a rate of approximately 900,000 gallons per day. The current reservoir elevation is 434.2LF, and we expect the filing to continue through May 2026.” We thank our partners a

A Well Kept Secret...?
Riddle us this: why has the announcement, purpose and calendar of Recreation and Park’s Park Needs Assessment survey been kept so low key? The survey began in January 2025, with the public comment portion closing on Wednesday, October 15th. SLT sends our appreciation to one of our supporters for bringing this to SLT's attention. We’ve reviewed the SLNC website but could not find any link to the Park Needs Assessment. (By the way, can someone please make the SLNC website usab

Street Lighting: Still Wondering Why It Is Out?
Everyone is well aware that street lighting in the City is suffering due to theft and vandalism. Sadly, this is noticeable all over Silver Lake. Concerns were raised at a recent downtown event with Miguel Sangalang, Director of the Bureau of Street Lighting (BSL). Sangalang is well aware of the issues with theft and vandalism. The City has over 223,000 street lights, with 400 different styles. These lights are connected by 9,000 miles of conduit and 27,000 miles of copper wir

Lingering RV
For several months, an RV has been stored on Armstrong and then on W. Silver Lake Drive. Residents brought their concerns to SLT. One homeowner complained that the second hand weed smoking, wafting from the RV and into home windows, was impacting the health of one of their children. SLT reached out to SLO Ramirez for assistance. Finally, in August, the LAPD placed a citation on the vehicle due to expired tags. It took weeks for the RV owner to adhere to the law, and move from
