The sorely needed Glendale Hyperion Bridge improvements are delayed again.

Regina Mallare, Field Deputy for Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, indicated that

funding constraints within the Bureau of Engineering are the cause for delay of the

$80 million project. No firm timeline exists for the bridge replacement.

Officially known as the Glendale Boulevard – Hyperion Avenue Viaduct Complex, the

bridge originally opened in 1929, and is a Historic Cultural Monument.

When it is funded, the Bureau of Engineering will upgrade the structure to

withstand an earthquake, restore the bridge’s historical appearance, and improve

circulation and safety for people driving, biking, and walking.
