On October 22, Silver Lake Together reported that the “Say Their Names” installation around the Silver Lake Reservoirs has fallen into disrepair and the names of 260 Black and Brown Americans woven into the Silver Lake Reservoir Complex fence have become faded, tattered and, in many cases, unreadable. Although many community members feel it is time to remove the installation – out of respect to the people who are named – the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has left the decision to the organizers of the display. The Silver Lake Together Advocacy Team asks the organizers to take the initiative and remove the installation. To display damaged and disintegrating names is an insult to those whose lives have been lost and to people of color who use the reservoir as a respite during these troubled times.
