CD 13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell on the Need for True Compassion

Updated: Nov 20, 2021

Yesterday, Councilmember O’Farrell wrote that there is nothing compassionate about enabling unhoused individuals to live or die in squalor on city sidewalks. And according to

The Eastsider, he also introduced a resolution that would enforce the city's new anti-camping ordinance within 500 feet of 17 CD 13 locations, from Echo Park and Silver Lake

underpasses to the Barnsdall Art Park.

City staff and outreach workers have previously offered unhoused residents shelter, housing, services, meals numerous times at these locations, said O'Farrell. “People experiencing homelessness belong indoors in safe, secure, managed environments. There is nothing compassionate about enabling unhoused individuals to live or die in squalor on city sidewalks."
