Councilmember O'Farrell Calls for Increased Public Safety in Hollywood

Updated: Oct 13, 2022

In response to a troubling rise in crime in nearby Hollywood over the last seven months, including homicides, theft and shots fired, CD 13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell worked with unarmed service providers, residents, businesses and LAPD to announce the addition of more LAPD shifts in Hollywood. According to the councilmember, the increased police presence is funded by CD 13 and illustrates the “all-hands-on-deck approach” needed to make communities feel safer. The project includes CD 13’s work with local businesses to bring more lighting to Hollywood Boulevard and the city’s first unarmed model of crisis response for non-violent calls for service. Known as the CIRCLE Program, it has already diverted hundreds of calls away from LAPD to outreach workers trained in de-escalation techniques and mental health services, allowing LAPD to focus on their primary responsibility—preventing and addressing crime.
