Straight Talk on Personal Safety

Updated: Mar 10, 2022

With an increase in follow-home robberies, personal safety is on everyone's mind. The most important thing that people can do to protect themselves is to be aware of their surroundings. In a world of ear-buds, being on our phones and other distractions, it is easy to not pay attention to other people. Try not to be so absorbed with what you are doing and look around every so often. If you think you are being followed, do not go home! Go to a public location where there are other people. If you are in your car, drive to the nearest police station or fire station. If you are on foot, head into an open store. If you have your phone, call 911 immediately, even if you are not sure. It’s much better to error on the side of caution. Lastly, if you see something, say something. If you think something is wrong, please call LAPD. Whatever caused you concern is worth telling the police.
